HAUNTED HUNTSVILLE EXPERIENCES FAQ

WHY DOES A COFFEE SHOP DO HAUNTED STUFF?

C.A.T. Cafe Bakery has the unique advantage of being located in a historic haunted jailhouse. Since September 2019, when we first decided to make this jailhouse our cafe home, to the present, we have daily experiences with our many in-house spirits. Quite a change for being non-believers at the beginning. Spirits reside here both on the 1st floor of the building and the 2nd floor jail cells. Over time, more seem to have come to join the party. This has inspired us to learn about the history of not only our building, but our surrounding town. Dr. Caroline Crimm of Historic Tours of Texas is our mentor and inspiration.

WHAT IS THE HAUNTED HUNTSVILLE EXPERIENCE?

We have developed several different ways for non-paranormal teams to enjoy the spooky.
Paranormal teams may contact Elizabeth to request other specific opportunities.

1) We provide a Guided Paranormal (after-hours) Experience within the building. We will spend 1.5 to 2 hours sharing experiences and stories all the while inviting our residents to participate. The ghostly participation is through the use of various paranormal equipment such as lights, EMF meters, Spirit Box and other varied ghost hunting equipment.

2) We provide a Cemetery Crawl experience at historic Oakwood Cemetery, the burial place of General Sam Houston.

3) We can coordinate with the Cell Block Specters to enable you to join an extended 4-hour late night investigation. Paranormal equipment is provided. This can be coordinated with the cemetery crawl.

The experience will start and end at the C.A.T. Cafe Bakery located on the first floor of the historic haunted decommissioned Walker County Jail. Here you may order one of our 100+ hand-crafted drinks or a snack before the experience begins.

WHAT IS A CEMETERY CRAWL?

We go to historic Oakwood Cemetery with the intent to end at dusk with visits to known hot spots. We will explore with a variety of paranormal devices to see who communicates with us. Along with the exploration is history and information about the relevancy of the area and people. History with Mystery! We have had many encounters with the spirits and the guardian of the cemeteries. During the cemetery crawls we always act with respect and never take anything away from any visit, except experiences and memories.

If requested, we may go to the TDCJ Captain Joe Byrd Cemetery instead of Oakwood Cemetery. However, the visit there will take place before dusk. There are additional dangers in the Prison Cemetery, such as collapsing coffins and less friendly entities.

Note: We do not go to Martha's Chapel cemetery on "Demon Road". Having been popularized by much social media, Martha's chapel has been on the receiving end of much vandalism by visitors through the years. The living families of the deceased have requested privacy and respect for their loved ones. We respect their wishes.

IS THE EXPERIENCE FAMILY FRIENDLY?

The experiences are not designed for young children. All children 18 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Teenagers 12 and up are typically fine with the content.

WILL IT BE SCARY?

Nothing will jump out at you. However, we will be talking about spooky topics which could give you a good tingle.

WHAT IF IT RAINS?

In the case of active rain, the Cemetery Crawl WILL be canceled. We don't want to risk slipping on uneven or muddy ground. If the rain has passed and the ground is still muddy, we WILL cancel the tour. Muddy cemeteries are not enjoyable.

Building experiences will continue as planned. A good lightning storm just adds energy to the building and the residents.

IT DIDN'T RAIN. WHY WAS MY TOUR CANCELLED?

Tours may also be cancelled for the following reasons: unexpected emergencies, 3 or less tickets sold before the tour, and other extreme acts of nature. We make every effort to avoid cancellations. In the event of cancellations, we will make every effort to notify you as soon as the decision is made. Refunds or credit will be given for experiences canceled by C.A.T. Cafe Bakery.

WILL I SEE A GHOST?

There are no guarantees that you will see a ghost. They do not perform on a schedule. However, much of Huntsville is known to be haunted. We have had many experiences with being contacted/touched by spirits or activity registered on paranormal equipment.

WHAT IF I CATCH SOMETHING IN MY PICTURES?

Be prepared to take pictures or video to see if you catch anything unusual. We would love for you to share images with us at QuirkyBaker@CATCafeBakery.com. We will load them to our gallery with credit, unless anonymity is requested.

I DON'T BELIEVE IN GHOSTS.

You don't need to believe in ghosts to enjoy this historical haunted experience. We respect that. There may be believers in your group; we ask that you please respect their enjoyment of this experience. We will give you a unique experience to remember, with stories about the long history of this old Texas town. Much has happened here. You will walk the same paths that Sam Houston and other historical figures trod.

WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE?

The experiences will depart from the C.A.T. Cafe at the designated time. Please arrive about 30 minutes early to set yourself up with any drinks or snacks you may wish to order from C.A.T. Cafe to take on the experience.
